Replacement Dataset
I am trying to replace a dataset, and in step 3 i am stuck because it will not allow me to designate the lat and lon columns. The drop-down boxes for these tasks are grayed out; the 'Select geographic Data,' and the latitude and longitude boxes.
Thanks,
Drew

Drew,
When replacing a dataset, Insight will use the original columns that you designated as lat and long, so there is no need to designate them again, which is why they are grayed out. As long as all of your columns are the same as in the original import, it should work just fine. - Maryl

No, it is saying that I need to define those fields. It is stuck in a loop.

Drew,
Can you send a screenshot of the screen in which you get stuck in a loop and a URL of the dataset? I just tried to do what I think you're doing and it worked for me. Specifically, the dropdown menu is disabled, but it already has the correct option selected so the import worked as expected. It sounds like you're getting the default option selected AND the menu is disabled. Also, are you doing the replacement via a file upload?

Hey Jeff,
The replacement is via file upload. Here is the screenshot, sorry it
grabbed both of my monitors, but just zoom in and as you can see the Lat and
Lon are locked on None. This is a replacement for Marcellus drilling *
permits* through 7/25/10. I need to do a replacement after doing some data
quality, and found some discrepancies. I have also included the .CSV file
that I am trying to replace "Marcellus Shale Drilling Permits Pennsylvania -
2007 through 7/25/2010 (2010-08-02) with. Not the drilled wells FYI.
Thanks,

I just tried this sequence with your data, using FF on Win and it worked properly. The expected behavior here is for the menus to be disabled, but with the correct options selected (based on those set for the original dataset). The menu selections are made via Javascript, so my current hypothesis is that you're getting a JS error that I'm not, and that error is putting JS in a state such that the menu values don't get set.
This will require a little more investigation. Do you happen to have firebug (http://getfirebug.com/) installed? It includes an error console that shows any JS errors that happen in the browser. If it's possible for you to try that and see if you see any errors, that would be very helpful. If not, maybe we can schedule a time for me to come over and watch over your shoulder to see if there's something different in your sequence than what I did.

Jeff,
I see your dataset here. I am going to try it on Sam's computer first then,
I will check on the Java errors. I would just delete this dataset but there
are numerous snapshots that would lose connections. So Ill get right back
to you.
Thanks,

Jeff,
Ok, Other computers here, same deal. So here is the screen print of the
script that has the latitude and longitude displaying None. Its not
recognizing the option variables i believe? Can I manipulate the code
through this add-on with no repercussions?

Jeff,
I just edited the script myself and got it to recognize the proper fields,
and it uploaded. Still the script looks like it was missing the word "none"
between the two parenthesis in the portion of the code I sent you in the
previous email.

Hmm. This is still a mystery to me. I guess I'm glad you could enable the menus with firebug and get the upload to work (although do this with great caution -- the system assumes these will be set to the attributes from the original, so if you set them to something different, bad things could happen), but I'm puzzled by the problem.
I still haven't been able to reproduce this here; I've tried several different permutations and each one gives me the expected behavior. So, there must be something I'm missing. If this happens to you again, please let me know & I'd like to try to figure it out.

Ok, I set them to what the original was in the initial upload, and it seems
to visualize properly. I am puzzled too. BTW the same thing happened when
I tried to add it as a series, which I will be doing in the future to this
data set.
Thanks for your help,
Drew
