Updating dataset woes

I'm trying to update a dataset (http://data.fractracker.org/cbi/dataset/datasetPreviewPage?uuid=~01...) with the attached csv, and keep getting the following error message:

There was a problem importing your data: One of the attribute types in the dataset you uploaded (latitude decimal: text vs. latitude decimal: number) does not match the corresponding source attribute type in the original dataset you chose. Try again.

I tried importing this as both text and number, but I get the same response. I tried downloading the original, deleting the dummy lat/long fields, deleting the contents, then pasting the desired content as values...I still get the same warning.

Any ideas where I'm going wrong with this?

Thanks,
Matt

    Hi Matt,

That error means that the importer was not able to parse the indicated column as a number (it had to fall back to text instead), and so the new file doesn't match the type of the old dataset.

In particular, looking at your data file, it looks like the latitude and longitude values for the record on line 5562 are in there as "#VALUE!" instead of numbers. Usually, this means Excel had a problem with those values and when you exported it you got that error signifier instead of a real value.

If you can figure out the proper values for that row, you can edit the file and fix the issue. Otherwise, you could leave the values blank (that row just won't show up on maps), or delete the row entirely.

Let me know if this helps,

    Mike

I wish that I'd thought of that. Deleting the row helped a little bit, but then it won't let you get past the third metadata screen (where it wants a lat/long designation, but won't let you pick anything). I included a screen shot if that helps.

    Thanks again,
    Matt

Oh heck. I thought we had fixed this bug! Try renaming the columns "Latitude Decimal" and "Longitude Decimal" in your CSV file, and upload again. A piece of the system is preserving case sensitivity from the original uploaded file when it shouldn't be.

Let me know if that works --- if not, I will dig deeper.
