User Profile and Library - an introduction
PROFILE AND LIBRARY HELP
The profile and library page serves as your home page in the system.
Profile
The first section contains information about you: your name, email
address, and when you joined the system, as well as system summary
information about all the snapshots you've created, datasets you've
uploaded, and collections you've made.
Library
The second section shows your library. The library is divided into
parts that you can select using the "Show" menu. You can choose to
see everything, just your datasets, just your snapshots, just your
favorite people, just your visualization sessions in progress, a
list of all your collections, or the contents of any particular
collection. No matter what you choose, you can sort the results
using the "Sort By" menu.
Collections
You can create new collections using the "Create new collection..."
option in the "Show" menu.
Removing Items
You can remove things from your library as well, by using the
"Remove" action from the action menu on the item you wish to
remove. If the item is in a collection, and you remove it from that
collection, it will only be removed from that collection and
nowhere else. If you remove it from your library, and you own it
(say, it's a snapshot you've created or a dataset you've uploaded),
the item will be removed from your library and removed from the
Explore page and from the search indexes. It will not be removed
from other users' collections or snapshots, however.
Profiles are Public
Remember, all users can see your library and profile, and you can
see theirs, because everything on Community Insight is open and
shared. Of course, any content you've restricted to a private
workgroup is only visible to members of that group.
RSS
An RSS feed is available for any part of your library. Use the show
button to pick the part of your library that you are interested in,
and then click on the orange RSS feed button to get the RSS link
for use in your favorite feed reader. Most RSS readers can also
obtain a list of the available feeds if you give them the URL of
the page.
