Geocoding your Datasets
Insight needs geographical information in order to display your data on a map. Up until now, that meant having one of two things in your datasets: latitude/longitude coordinates, or a shape file to match up to place information. Now, with the addition of geocoding you can add geographic information to your datasets with just an address, or even just a state or zip code. Our system will add latitude and longitude information to your addresses and add them as points to your map.

You will designate your data to be geocoded during the import process, in the step 3. During step 3 importing your dataset your will set attribute names, data types, and set geolocational information. Choose "Select attributes to geocode" from the drop down menu. Below, you will see four smaller menus appear: Address, State, City, Zip. You'll use these to match your data columns to the corresponding address component.
Keep in mind that you don't have to have complete addresses. It's possible to match your data with just a zip code or state. Geocoding is more exact and accurate with more information, but if it's okay for your data to be matched approximately, i.e. in the middle of a zip code or state, geocoding will still work for you.
You should also note that the geocoder only works for United States addresses at this time.
